Lectures

Week 7
In this lecture we were given a demonstration on how to use 3D effects and intertwine which could be use in our project. We were told to try using this tools during the class. Below is my attempt on using it.

Week 8
Independent learning week, no class was held.

Week 9
In this class we were given feedbacks on our work. I was told by Sir. Hazis to change the placement of the word "BEHIND", He told me to put the word "BEHIND" at the back of everything. Below was my initial plan.

Task 3: Illustrated Typography Poster

This task is a collaboration with DPI class, in DPI we were assign to make a poster using our own photograph. And for IVN we were assign to alter a sans serif font in Adobe Illustrator to be used in that poster. We were given freedom on how we should alter it.

Research and Ideation

For this project I make my own quote "Leave your past behind". I first went to Pinterest to find some poster inspirations, along side some typography inspirations. Then I also went through the tutorial links that sir Hazis gave which also gives me inspirations for the poster. Below are the reference and sketches that I made.

Digitalization

I stumble upon one of the Youtube playlist links that Sir Hazis gave, and found 2 tutorials in particular that fits my poster really well. So I follow through it for my poster. Below is the entire process that I went through.

Fig. 2.3 ("PAST" outcome, week 9, 21/11/2024)

After that I copied it to photoshop, however it didn't sit quite well with the rest. So I redo the process and applied it to the word "LEAVE," instead.

After that I moved on to the word "BEHIND", below is the process on how I did it.

Then I imported both LEAVE and BEHIND into photoshop and edit it so that it matches the poster. For "BEHIND" I added hue/saturation and clipped onto the word to change it's color. And for "LEAVE" I added a layer below it with the word "LEAVE"(without any alterations), and decreased it's opacity to create the illusion of it leaving a mark when it's peeled.

Reflections

Experience

At first I was very confuse on how I should alter the font. My initial idea was just to play with backgrounds, foregrounds, and midgrounds. However, after going through the links that Sir. Hazis gave, it inspires me to put some of the tutorials given into my work. This creates a significant difference and improvement to the overall layout of the poster.

Observation

With this task I observe that we could actually a lot with a text, there is a lot of ways to manipulate a text to make it interesting and appealing. At first I thought photoshop is the only way to create this manipulation but later on I learned that there are lots of things that I could do in Illustrator too.

Findings

I find ways to use filters and tools alongside each others to create multiple ways to alter a text. I also find out that there are some things that illustrator could do that photoshop couldn't.
