Reflections

Experience

This marks the end of my first 14 weeks journey studying typography. At first, I didn't know what I will get myself into, I didn't know what to expect. For the first and second week I was very confuse on making my blog as it was something very new to me. But, after I am done making it, I began to get used to it and updating this blog becomes a routine. In this 14 weeks I also learned a lot about typography, I now understand the basics of tracking and kerning. On top of that within 14 weeks I understand how to make my own digital font from scratch.

Observation

Within this 14 weeks I observe how much details comes into typography, especially when I dissect letter fonts on task 2. To make a good typography there are a lot to come into consideration. There are limits to how much kerning and tracking that could be done. On top of that there are also rules to be followed in order to categorize a font as good or great. Overall I observe that I need to pay attention to even the smallest details when it comes to typography.

Findings

I find that most of the time we need to make a type minimalist, like for example in task 1 we were told not to use a lot of graphical elements, instead we need to get creative by using the font itself. A good font are those that are easily readable and those that could convey the word or text behind it. A complicated font won't mean that the font itself is good. In addition to that I also find this module very interesting as I also learned it's history and how it come to be.
